Ginger
Garlic is mainly used as a condiment in food preparations and is also used as carminative and gastric stimulation in many medicinal preparations. Processing of ginger is undertaken to dehydrate it and for preparing ginger candy.
Description
It is a tropical plant and its origin is presumed to be in the Eastern region of Asia and India. From India, it reached Mediterranean region during 1st Century and to East Africa in the 13th Century. Later it has spread to almost all the tropical countries.
Ginger produces a hot, fragrant kitchen spice. Young ginger rhizomes are juicy and fleshy with a very mild taste. They are often pickled in vinegar or sherry as a snack or cooked as an ingredient in many dishes.
Gingers are available in the markets almost throughout the year.
